A 2026 cost survey and three-phase plan for hosting the Anarchive — the federated wiki farm and its growing archive of video clips. We currently pay a co-op $40 a month for managed hosting with Nextcloud sync. The survey's finding: the wiki is nearly free to run. The cost problem is video.
## The Finding
A federated wiki farm is a small Node app behind Caddy. Its pages are kilobytes of JSON. The $40 pays for managed Nextcloud and for operations, not for the wiki. Video wants two different things — cheap bulk storage and cheap egress — and they are sold by different vendors at very different prices. See The Cost of Video.
## The Survey
Cheap Object Storage compares the object stores side by side. Hetzner sells the cheapest bulk byte in Europe. Backblaze B2 is the cheapest S3-compatible store. Cloudflare R2 is the cheapest place to move a byte. Egress Economics explains why the moving price matters more than the storing price.
## Three Phases
- Trim the Coop Bill — move bulk media off Nextcloud. Costs €3–6 a month, keeps the co-op, may shrink the existing bill. - Self Host the Farm — a €6 VPS plus a 5 TB Storage Box. About €17 a month, replacing the $40. - One Big Auction Box — a refurbished dedicated server. About €30 a month buys 16 TB and a second IPFS node.
The phases are cumulative options, not a schedule. Each one stands alone and each can be reversed.
## Values
The Co-op Question weighs the last few euros against staying inside the co-op economy, and prices the pager honestly — managed operations is most of what the current $40 buys.
